Notes from the Underground

There’s a 99 year old Jewish man on my floor upstairs who is being kept in isolation ( locked in his room) because he attacked a racist old woman and every time he’s let out he goes after her again.

An aide got into a shouting match with a patient because he wasn’t getting out of the elevator fast enough. It escalated to the point of each cursing the other out. The aide was calling the man a bitch and the man was calling the aide a bitch.

I haven’t been out of my room today. I’m waiting for my sister and brother-in-law to stop by and I’m lucky enough to have the one sane “blue shirt” looking after me today. I’ll call her Emma.

I found to that she’s the one that’s been turning off the air-conditioner in the hallway outside my door so that at least for now I’m not blasted with arctic air when I leave my very comfortable apartment.

I found out that the temperature in the dining room was in the mid 80s this morning. Someone with the key to the thermostat hadn’t arrived to set it to the normal freezing temperature.

It doesn’t matter to me, since I’m now self-medicating, but word has it that there was no nurse to dispense medicine until 11 a.m. today. Usual starting time for the med room is 7 a.m.

Two days ago, all three elevators were out at the same time. The reason is still unknown. But it meant an hour wait to get anywhere.

There’s a rumor that this place is owned by the Catholic Church. I need, at some point to research the history without giving away the name – tho certain people know it.

I took the ex-boxer to his case worker, yesterday. She thanked me and said I should leave, there were “extenuating circumstances.” At dinner, a few hours later he sat there as usual and didn’t say a word.
